Hitachi Automotive Products Increases Efficiency
With Data Collection
When you hear Hitachi,
you think quality, value, continuous innovation
and customer satisfaction. That's not just
marketing. It's reality.
Hitachi Automotive
Products is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi
America, which markets and manufactures a
broad range of electronics, computer systems,
semiconductors and industrial equipment throughout
North America.
Based in Harrodsburg,
Kentucky, Hitachi Automotive manufactures
and distributes automotive products to tier
one companies. Dating back to the 1930s in
Japan, the company produces high quality electronic
components,
power train equipment, electronic control
technologies and motor-based equipment.
At Hitachi Automotive
Products, the commitment to quality is delivered
through timely and accurate product delivery:
complete customer satisfaction.
This commitment demands
efficient access to information about production
lines and warehouse supply.
As part of an effort
to continuously improve efficiency, Hitachi
Automotive wanted to improve the flow of data
between the shop floor and its ERP - Geac
System21. The solution the company was seeking
was a data collection system to maximize access
to information. The company wanted to enter
shop floor transactions on handheld devices
using barcode scans.
Hitachi found Viewpoint
for System21 from Nutech Systems.
To ensure that Viewpoint
was the right solution for its needs, Hitachi
Automotive Products visited a System21 implementation
at another Nutech Systems customer site. Once
they were satisfied, Hitachi's technical group
and Nutech's customer service team developed
a System Requirements Definition, a detailed
needs analysis and report, to outline the
process and technical requirements for the
implementation.
Viewpoint was added
to two of Hitachi Automotive's North American
facilities - at the headquarters site in Kentucky,
which manufactures OEM products, and at the
Los Angeles site in California, where the
company handles remanufacturing for after
market products.
Over the course of
eight weeks, in an accelerated implementation,
Nutech worked with Hitachi Automotive's technical
team on the critical path.
The final implementation
covered the main raw storage areas, machining
center and the finished goods area, allowing
management to track products through the production
and distribution process.
